A morning summary for every team lead

You ask Chip to send the summary you paste into every team channel each morning; Chip makes it a scheduled job that posts to each channel & keeps a dated copy you can query.

Use case

The request
Every morning I write a little open-ticket summary for each team lead and paste it into their channel. It's the same thing five times before coffee. Can this just send itself?

What Chip asked

Chip checked that nothing like this existed yet, then asked one question, because "for each team lead" implies a list it did not have:

Chip: Where does the list of teams and their channels live: is it fixed, or does it change?

Reply: It changes. Leads come and go, and sometimes a team goes quiet and we mute it.

That is why the recipients live in a table you edit, with an enabled flag for the "mute it" case. Chip chose 06:00 in your timezone & one saved copy per team per day.

What got built

  • The app. Daily Team Report, with its own route in your navigation.
  • The recipients table. One row per team: its Slack channel, its lead & an enabled flag. Flip the flag off to mute a team; its history stays.
  • The snapshots table. One row per team per day with the report text and the metrics behind it, so each report becomes queryable history.
  • The automation. Two ways in, the 06:00 schedule for every enabled team & a slash command for one named team, sharing one body that runs once per team: read its open tickets, compute the metrics, write the narrative, post to its channel & save the snapshot.

Chip rehearsed it with posting switched off, checked one snapshot per enabled team, then switched it on.

How it runs now. Every morning at 06:00 each enabled team's channel gets its summary & a dated copy lands in the snapshots table. Mute a team by flipping its flag. Ask for one team's summary on demand with the slash command.

Try it
